Grinders

There are a few thing you want to be on the lookout for when buying a weed grinder. These include:

Number of compartments

  • One compartment grinders have one compartment where the herb is ground and retrieved. Single compartment, or two piece, grinders are notorious for producing uneven grinds, and retrieving the herb can be difficult because the grinder’s teeth are in the way.
  • Two compartment grinders (or 3-piece grinders) have an additional compartment for easy retrieval and a better overall grind consistency. The first compartment has small holes in the bottom that guide the herb into the second compartment. These holes ensure that only herbs of a certain size get through to second compartment, which creates a nice, even grind.
  • Three compartment grinders, also known as 4-piece grinders, have an extra compartment with a fine screen that further separates the herbs that fall into the second compartment. This final compartment is for pollen or kief.

Materials Used

Acrylic grinders tend to be the most affordable, so if you’re on a tight budget, this may be your only option. Don’t expect an acrylic grinder to last long, though. Over time, the teeth will wear away and sometimes break. If you’re not careful, you may wind up with pieces of acrylic in your herb. Smoking, vaping or eating herb with acrylic can be dangerous, so many experts recommend staying away from cheap acrylic grinders.

Metal grinders are the preferred option. Most are made of aluminum as this is the most cost-effective metal to use. Aluminum is safe to use when grinding herbs, and these grinders not only last longer, but produce a better grind.
